When I was about 10 years old, I was riding in the car with my mom. We were in an unfamiliar area, so I was paying much more attention to the sites outside my window. At a stop sign, I looked to my right and saw a yard full of Mini Coopers. I thought my eyes were lying to me; how could cars be so small and so cute?? They were packed side by side in a rainbow of colors. Most were in a state of disrepair, but I thought it was the most beautiful 'garden' I had ever seen! I asked my mom if they were real. I don't know if she understood my question, she answered 'of course they're real. You're looking at them.' I said 'Do they work? Can you drive them?' I needed to confirm that they weren't just a bunch of Matchbox toys dropped off by some undiscovered giant roaming the New Jersey suburbs. She replied 'I guess so.' The traffic moved on and so did we, but I never forgot the first time I met a Mini. It was love at first sight. Unrequited love.
I still lust after Mini's and I have vowed to have one someday, but in the meantime, it is good to know there are others out there who share this small obsession.
