Ok. So see the giant stack of plywood with the insulation on top? That my friends is what 44 sheets of T-111 3/8" plywood siding looks like. Each sheet weighs about 472 pounds. I may need to check my facts on that one. At any rate, this stuff is HEAVY. And awkward. And splintery. And HEAVY. You get the idea. Ok, so the giant stack of plywood needed to be moved to the garage where I could prime and paint at leisure while the house was being prepped to receive the aforementioned siding. See the garage up there above my dog Jaxin ?(hi Jax!) Fortunately, I had the help of my wonderful 17 year old niece, who, by the way is not at all used to manual labor, and we did it in an afternoon. Ok, so now the plywood is in my garage. Then I had to move and prime each piece, 5 sheets every night after work for 9 nights. Once they were dry, I re-stacked them until I was ready to paint. (in the meantime, I finished insulating the ENTIRE house, wrapped it all up with plastic sheeting, cleaned up after the builder, and watched the entire Tour de France) Back to the plywood. After FINALLY choosing a color (more on that some other time) I rented a commercial sprayer, laid the sheets out all over the yard and painted them. About an hour after the last sheet was painted, the beautiful day rapidly turned gray, and stormy. Fortunately, once again my lovely niece was there and we gathered up the sheets and leaned them in emergency piles against the house. Then she left and never came back again. I think I broke her. Ok, so now the lovely siding is painted, and dry and ready to go on the house. All I have to do is move it all back into the garage to stay dry until it is needed. I. just. can't. do. it. anymore. So instead I make one stack outside and one stack inside. The T-111 Grooved Plywood Siding is officially done and I will never touch it again.
Long story short: 44 sheets of really heavy, awkward, splintery, HEAVY plywood were moved 6 times. Only two of those 6 times did I have help. So, in the end I moved 44 sheets of plywood (did i mention they were HEAVY?) 4 times, the equivalent of 176 sheets.
Why did I do all this, you ask? The Almighty Dollar. My builder dude gave me a huge discount for doing all the painting and insulation and other stuff he didn't want to do. Win, win.
Try and explain that to my shoulders.
See the white boards wrapped in plastic? That is all the trim. Same story as the plywood. Move. Stack. Prime. Stack. Paint. Stack. This stuff was way lighter. Way.
So you see, this is why I am very, very tired.
i'm tired just thinking about your project! that said, i am really excited to see the progress, however slow it may seem. you are building your own house!!
